Welcome! Thanks for visiting our website.

The Little Red Schoolhouse is located in the El Cerrito - Richmond Hills, just minutes from Interstate 80, the Del Norte BART station, and a number of public and private schools. We have continually served the community since 1979, forming a strong partnership with residents, local businesses, and community members.

Open year-round from 7:30am - 6:00pm, The Little Red Schoolhouse provides a solid beginning for preschoolers, preparing the whole child. We take pride in serving families, and wish you the best in your childcare search. Please let us know how we may be of assistance.

Gloria Gardner, Director

Gloria Gardner

Gloria Gardner earned her Bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. After completing her California Teaching Credential at San Francisco State University, Gloria worked as an elementary school teacher for the Berkeley Unified School District. Amassing years of classroom experience and turning her focus to Early Childhood Education, Gloria opened The Little Red Schoolhouse in 1979. Today, Gloria continues to serve a vital role as co-director, and her role includes planning lessons, teaching sign-language, making individual child assessments for kindergarten readiness, leading singing, overseeing science experiments, and planning culminating activities. Gloria continues to expand her Child Development Permit through continuing classes in Early Childhood Education. When not at work, Gloria enjoys socializing with friends, gardening, reading, craft projects, watching musicals and plays, and competitive rowing.

John Gardner, Director

John Gardner

John Gardner joined The Little Red Schoolhouse as co-director in 1982. In addition to his college coursework at Cal State Fullerton in Anthropology, John has completed courses in Early Childhood Education. John plays a vital role in working with the children, helping them to develop gross motor skills, conflict-resolution skills, and develop problem-solving and game-strategy skills. John enjoys working with children of all ages, and is highly regarded in his role of mentoring young, talented children. When not at work, John enjoys playing, teaching, and performing on the cello, listening to classical music, reading books, going for walks, and taking day trip adventures.
