UNITS

Our program is largely based upon the presentation of integrated themes. By this we mean that we adopt a theme such as “Mardi Gras” or “Twinkleland” or “Race Cars” or “Japan” or “Long, Long Ago” or “Winter,” and then we bring all of the learning areas into the theme. In this way, pre-math concepts, dramatics, cooking, language arts, singing, games, etc. are all integrated into the main theme. For the six weeks or so that a particular theme is being developed with the children, all the important curriculum areas are covered in this unique way. Interestingly, as we broaden and deepen each unit of study, we are likely to draw from such diverse areas as biology, folklore, astronomy, history, foreign language, geology, architecture, etc. Always of special interest is the culminating activity, and that usually includes a major presentation for the parents. Likewise, it can also be a special day of activities, as with the “Mother Goose Day” or “Moon Day.”
